The plant originating in Central America, and it has been spreead to other countries in tropical ang sub-tropical countries as well and is widely grown in Asia and Africa. It is an uncultivated wild species, a non-food plants. In the Philippines it is widely use as a living fence to protect the gardens and any other fields from animals, it is also use believed as a deterent to snakes, it grows in desert and even grow with less water and as such does not compete with food crops, the animals don't like to eat the leaves so they can grow well.
The seeds contains 30% oil that can be process to produced high quality bio-diesel fuel, usable for a standard diesel engine.
We try to plant Jatropha curcas, but the problem is the market. There is no known market yet in the Philippines, so we stop planting Jatropha, in the bakyard of our house Jatropha is a common plant.

Palawan underground river still in the race
Last of RP wonders.
The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, one of the Philippines top natural attraction and recognized as a World Hiretage Site by the United Nations, has entered the second round of an ongoing global search for the seven new wonders of the world.
Palawan's 8.2 kilometers underground river set on a huge primeval karst formation in the NorthWestern coast of Puerto Princesa City bested six other local natural attractions in the Country's last year's polling.
The Coral Triangle, a region that the Philippines shares with five other countries and representing the majority of the world's corals and marine-based species made the cut of 226 sites from among the original 441 entries in last year's Internet-base voting campaign.
The qualified national and multinational nominies from 222 countries feature iconic locations, such as the Grand Canyon in Colorado, Loch Ness in Scotland, the Black Forest in Germany, and Mount Fuji in Japan, alongside the Amazon, the Danube, the Dead Sea, the Great Barrier reef, Iguazu Falls, the Klahari Desert, Mont Blanc and Niagara Falls.
New7Wonders, a private foundation based in Zurich, Switzerland, which is spearheading the search. The foundation was establish by a Swiss-born Canadian filmmaker in 2001, Bernard Weber an adventurer to contribute to the protection of the world's human-built and natural heritage and to foster respect for the cultural diversity on our planet.
Among the country's tourist attraction's failing to hurdle the first round was erstwhile voting leader Tubataha Reefs, also located in Palawan, Chocolate Hills in Bohol, Mayon Volcano in Albay, the Hundred Islands in Pangasinan, Mount Pinatubo in Zambales and Taal Volcano in Batangas.
Of the original nominees worldwide, 180 or 40% were eliminated. The finalist of the world's seven new wonders will be choosen through internet-base voting and an international panel of experts in two years.
On July 21, the third and final phase of voting will begin. The voters will have approximately two years to vote among the 21 finalists for the official New7wonders of the world to be revealed in 2011.
The Coral Triangle features an abundance of coral reefs straddling the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste.
Covering more than 8.5 million square kilometers with over 600 reef-building coral species that encompass 75 percent of all species known in the world, the region is regarded by environmental conservationists as top priority for conservation of marine life. More than 3,000 species of fish live in the Coral Triangle, including the largest fish the whale shark and the living fossil coelacanths, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
Among the neighboring country's, the selected entries include Cambodia's Yak Loum Lake, Vietnam's Ha Long Bay, Laos' Nam Ha National Park, Singapore's Bukit Tima Nature Reserve, Brunei's Tasek Merimbun, Malaysia's Sipadan Island, Thailand's Ko Phi Island, Jaco Island in East Timor, the Mergui Archipelago of Burma (Myanmar) and the Mekong River, shared by China and Mainland Southeast Asian Nations.

BANANA CRAZE IN JAPAN
The Philippines should move faster and purposely to fill the shortage of bananas in the shelves of Japan, where the "Banana Morning Diet" has a big craze.
Due to the growing popularity of the Banana Morning Diet, Rep. Emmylou Talinio-Mendoza said that over the last six months, bananas have been flying off supermarket racks in Japan faster show they would be replenished.
Created by a pharmacist in Osaka, the Banana Morning Diet has become Fashionable in Japan on account of strong endorsement by celebrities there who have testimony about their sudden loss of weight.
The regimen starts with a banana with a glass of room temperature water for breakfast and anything for lunch and dinner. Desserts are not allowed after meals. A mid afternoon snack is fine. One must have a dinner at 8 p.m. and go to bed before midnight.
A market of approximately128 million people, Japan is the buyer of more than half of the annual Philippine banana exports. Japan imported 970,000 metric tons (MT) of bananas in 2007, mostly from the Philippines and partly from Taiwan.
Cotabato is one of the Philippine province that producing banana and other tropical Fruits . Cotabato has a large plantation run by tropical growers, including Standard Philippine Fruit Corp., a subsidiary of Dole Philippines Inc.
After Ecuador, Philippines is the world's biggest banana exporter, with a global market share of 16%. Last year the country shipped out around 1.905 million metric tons of $440 million worth of banana, or P18.1 billion based on $1:41.14 exchange rate at the end of 2007.
The Philippines' 2007 export banana volume was only 40 percent of the 4.65 million metric ton shipped out by Ecuador of the same year. Ecuador was 34 percent of the global banana export market in 2007.
Besides Ecuador, the Philippines' other rivals in banana export markets are India, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Costa Rica and Mexico.

LPG Safe Cooking
Most of the households in the Philippines are using Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) particularly in urban and suburban areas in the country. To the full working Mother and wife , one hurriedly sending husband to work and children to school every morning, wakeup early and ease and swiftness is for cooking and LPG, is a necessary. Well, there maybe backwater places in the countryside of which still using firewood are used but I surmise majority of the Filipino household today use LPG.
However, not all are acquainted in the right handling of LPG, the threat it poses to life and limbs when careless and neglectful.
In the house we are using a safety gadget to prevent the accident, and we always make sure that the LPG valve is always closed after every use.
When the Prices of LPG soar high, we use firewood that we accumulated from our farm as a reserve when we don't have LPG..
Here are some safety tips from experts in properly handling the LPG to avoid unnecessary damages:
1. Do not store LPG cylinders in enclosed kitchen cabinet without proper ventilation.
2. Keep LPG cylinders away from electrical points and other sources of fire and ignition.
3. Do not invert LPG cylinders or let it lie horizontally on the floor.
4. Use only LPG resistant rubber hoses with clamps and regularly check for water, cracks and leaks.
If you smell gas in your kitchen:
1. Do not switch on/off electrical switches or connect/ disconnect electrical plugs.
2. open all doors and improve ventilation.
3. Turn off regulators and remove cylinders. Use soapy water to test for leaks.
4. If cylinders is leaking, move it out to open and well-ventilated place.
Authorities also advise consumers to buy only LPG with cylinder bearing the PS Quality Mark and check if security seal is intact and firmly affixe to the valve. LPG must be checked if it has correct weight. The government requires retailers of LPG to have weighing scales in their stores. Consumers are advised to report to the Department of Energy (DOE) any underweighing and adultercation cases.
Yes , it is now very comfortable to cook our favorite dishes using LPG fuel, an advantage we have over forefathers. But let us not always forget to think of the safety of our families and our properties.
