Eco-Friendly Printing Services

No matter what one would have us believe, printing services are still among the most sought after services. Even in this age of electronic communication and "paperless" offices, man has not be able to fully shrug off the need of paper. Printing jobs are still in need and printing press everywhere are always busy with a steady influx of orders everyday. This is also an age marked of an increased awareness about environmental issues. There is a strong effort anywhere to go green, stop environmental pollution and save the planet earth. This awareness has necessitated the need to take a  look into industrial and commercial organizations, which had been blamed for polluting the environment and depleting the earth’s natural resources. We have  to think how such harmful effects can be diminished and keep the planet earth green.
Like most production operations, printing houses also produce harmful wastes. Printing houses produce what are known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), caused by the use of petroleum-based inks, laminates, varnishes and adhesives. Studies have shown that these compounds, when inhaled, greatly increase the risk of asthma attacks. As a result, measures are being adopted by many printing press worldwide to comply with existing regulations and adopt environment-friendly practices.
However, this is only half of what “eco-friendly printing services” are really all about. The issue of conservation is no less important than the need to stop polluting the environment. Eco-friendly printing is all about a successful merging of the two.
It is surprising to learn that the paper and printing industry ranks fourth among manufacturers in the amount of energy used. Producing paper and the electricity used for factory operations, as well as the actual printing process, demand lots of fossil fuels. Printers, thus, put a major strain on the planet, draining her natural resources in alarming magnitude.
Certified eco-friendly printing services keep track of the total energy usage and implement strategies for offsetting the environmental impact of their businesses. Their goal is to be “sustainable printers”, meaning they will be carefully planning operations to minimize electricity use, put a lighter drain on natural resources and source paper from companies certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) which is virtually synonymous with well-managed forests that adhere to strict environmental standards. It also means recycling the paper and other supplies whenever possible. That’s what “green printing” is all about.
By choosing eco-friendly printing services for all our printing needs, we can show that we really care about our environment and act as responsible citizens of this planet. It’s always comforting to know that we’re doing our part to protect the environment. It’s also reassuring to know that our printing requirements will not endanger the earth by adding toxics and harmful pollutants. Everybody should insist on printing green. After all, we all owe it to the planet that we can call home in this vast universe. Sending all our printing jobs to certified green printing press offering eco-friendly printing services can go a long way in helping conserve the environment and ensure a greener planet for our children.

BANANA CRAZE IN JAPAN

The Philippines should move faster and purposely to fill the shortage of bananas in the shelves of Japan, where the "Banana Morning Diet" has a big craze.
Due to the growing popularity of the Banana Morning Diet, Rep. Emmylou Talinio-Mendoza said that over the last six months, bananas have been flying off supermarket racks in Japan faster show they would be replenished.
Created by a pharmacist in Osaka, the Banana Morning Diet has become Fashionable in Japan on account of strong endorsement by celebrities there who have testimony about their sudden loss of weight.
The regimen starts with a banana with a glass of room temperature water for breakfast and anything for lunch and dinner. Desserts are not allowed after meals. A mid afternoon snack is fine. One must have a dinner at 8 p.m. and go to bed before midnight.
A market of approximately128 million people, Japan is the buyer of more than half of the annual Philippine banana exports. Japan imported 970,000 metric tons (MT) of bananas in 2007, mostly from the Philippines and partly from Taiwan.
Cotabato is one of the Philippine province that producing banana and other tropical Fruits . Cotabato has a large plantation run by tropical growers, including Standard Philippine Fruit Corp., a subsidiary of Dole Philippines Inc.

The Philippines' 2007 export banana volume was only 40 percent of the 4.65 million metric ton shipped out by Ecuador of the same year. Ecuador was 34 percent of the global banana export market in 2007.

Truth About Diet Soda

We talk a lot about ''watching what we eat,'' but if you never gave a thought to what you ate and instead watched only what you drank, you could probably cut 450 calories a day out of your life. (Yes, nearly a pound of fat loss a week!) That's what a study from the University of North Carolina found. Americans today drink about 192 gallons of liquid a year—or about 2 liters a day. To put it into perspective, this is nearly twice as many calories as we did 30 years ago.
When confronted with the growing tide of calories from sweetened beverages, the first response is, “Why not just drink diet soda?” Well, for a few reasons:
Just because diet soda is low in calories doesn't mean it can't lead to weight gain.
It may have only 5 or fewer calories per serving, but emerging research suggests that consuming sugary-tasting beverages--even if they're artificially sweetened--may lead to a high preference for sweetness overall. That means sweeter (and more caloric) cereal, bread, dessert--everything.
Guzzling these drinks all day long forces out the healthy beverages you need.
Diet soda is 100 percent nutrition-free, and again, it's just as important to actively drink the good stuff as it is to avoid that bad stuff. So one diet soda a day is fine, but if you're downing five or six cans, that means you're limiting your intake of healthful beverages, particularly water and tea.

There remain some concerns over aspartame, the low-calorie chemical used to give diet sodas their flavor.
Aspartame is 180 times sweeter than sugar, and some animal research has linked consumption of high amounts of the sweetener to brain tumors and lymphoma in rodents. The FDA maintains that the sweetener is safe, but reported side effects include dizziness, headaches, diarrhea, memory loss, and mood changes. Bottom line: Diet soda does you no good, and it might just be doing you wrong.

The best way to hydrate is by drinking low-calorie, high-nutrient fluids—and avoiding belt-busting beverages.

Now that you have a hold on your liquid assets, upgrade the rest of your grocery list by avoiding the 13 Worst "Healthy" Foods in the Supermarket. With so many items to choose from, it's easier to fall victim to packaged food lies than you think.

LPG Safe Cooking

Most of the households in the Philippines are using Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) particularly in urban and suburban areas in the country. To the full working Mother and wife , one hurriedly sending husband to work and children to school every morning, wakeup early and ease and swiftness is for cooking and LPG, is a necessary. Well, there maybe backwater places in the countryside of which still using firewood are used but I surmise majority of the Filipino household today use LPG.
However, not all are acquainted in the right handling of LPG, the threat it poses to life and limbs when careless and neglectful.
In the house we are using a safety gadget to prevent the accident, and we always make sure that the LPG valve is always closed after every use.
When the Prices of LPG soar high, we use firewood that we accumulated from our farm as a reserve when we don't have LPG..

Here are some safety tips from experts in properly handling the LPG to avoid unnecessary damages:

1. Do not store LPG cylinders in enclosed kitchen cabinet without proper ventilation.
2. Keep LPG cylinders away from electrical points and other sources of fire and ignition.
3. Do not invert LPG cylinders or let it lie horizontally on the floor.
4. Use only LPG resistant rubber hoses with clamps and regularly check for water, cracks and leaks.

If you smell gas in your kitchen:

1. Do not switch on/off electrical switches or connect/ disconnect electrical plugs.
2. open all doors and improve ventilation.
3. Turn off regulators and remove cylinders. Use soapy water to test for leaks.
4. If cylinders is leaking, move it out to open and well-ventilated place.

Authorities also advise consumers to buy only LPG with cylinder bearing the PS Quality Mark and check if security seal is intact and firmly affixe to the valve. LPG must be checked if it has correct weight. The government requires retailers of LPG to have weighing scales in their stores. Consumers are advised to report to the Department of Energy (DOE) any underweighing and adultercation cases.
Yes , it is now very comfortable to cook our favorite dishes using LPG fuel, an advantage we have over forefathers. But let us not always forget to think of the safety of our families and our properties.

6 Chinese go on trial for selling melamine

Six Chinese suspects went on trial Friday accuse of making and selling the industrial chemical at the center of the tainted milk scandal blamed for killing six children and sickening nearly 300,000 others.

Among those in court Friday was the owner of a workshop that was allegedly the country's largest source of melamine, the substance responsible for the health crisis that also saw Chinese food products pulled from stores worldwide, state media said.

Police say Zhang Yujun, 40, ran a workshop on the outskirts of Jinan in eastern Shandong province that manufactured and sold a "protein powder" compose mainly of melamine and malt dextrin, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. The powder was added to watered-down milk to make it appear higher in protein content.

Prosecutors in the Shijiazhuang Intermediate People's Court accused Zhang of producing 776 tons of the additive powder from October 2007 through August 2008, making it the largest source of melamine in the country. He allegdly sold more that 600 tons with a total value of $1 million, the court heard.

In the same case, a second man, Zhang Yanzhang, 24, was accuse of buying and reselling 230 tons of powder to others.

State televition showed both men in court in hand cuffs with their heads bowed while being questioned by three judges. It was noy immediately clear what penalties they face.

An official at the publicity office of Hebei Supreme Courts across Hebei province for adding the chemical to raw milk and then selling it to Sanlu Group Co., the main company in the scandal, according to Xinhua.

Melamine can artificially inflate protein levels and was apparently added to watered-down milk to fool quality inspectors while boosting profits.

Zhang Heshe and Zhang Taizhen were accused of adding 35 kilograms of the "protein powder" to 70 tons of raw milk and then selling it to Sanlu. Yang Jingmin ang Gu Guoping were also charged with adding 24 kilograms and 16.7 kilograms of melamine, respectively.

The verdicts will be announced at an unspecified date, Xinhua reported.

No breakfast, earlier sex

In japan a study came from 3,000 people those who did not eat breakfast regularly in their early teens said they lost their virginity at an average of 17.5, versus an average of 19 for all Japanese. The Japanese researchers have came up with this new finding that many theories linking between food and sex, young people who skip breakfast tend to lose their virginity earlear.

For those who had breakfast when they were younger, the average age of having sexual experience was at age 19.4.

If children don't feel comfortable in their family environment, those unhappy with their parents, may tend to go out and find ways to release their frustration by having sex. Young people who start having sex early tend to miss breakfast because they return late at night.

The survey also found that nearly 40% of Japanese married couples had not had sex in more than a month.

Respondents said they were too tire in their work to have time for sex..

Batanes coffee shop ransacked

IVANA, Batanes -- The world-reknown Honest Coffee Shop here that boasts of probably being the only store in the whole world without anyone tending it was ransacked and emptied of items and valuables recently.

While Elena Gabilo and her husband attended the early dawn Mass on December 24., a few meters away from their house, the coffee shop was forcibly opened.

Among the valuables taken by the robbers were, bottles of Ginebra San Miguel gin, and dried fish.

The owner of the coffee shop not reported the incident to the local police. "Of what use will it be to report it to the police?," "They only make it appear that they are helpless in all that is happening in town, if only to show that our town has a 'zero' crime rate," Gabilo said.

Additionally, the Treasurer's office was also ransacked early morning of Dec. 24.
The first ransacked on Sept. 22 about P82,000, during the height of typhoon.

Police have not conducted any serious investigation, and no suspect ever been invited, it was only entered as a minor incident.

Then wednesday , while everyone tending dawn Mass, the treasurer's Office was again emptied, at least P30,000 was lost to still unknown robbers..

Officials, Police of the local government maintained tight - lip and not conducted any investigation , maybe they don't want the people of the outside world to know that crime exist in this small town.. No safe place in this country anymore.

I remember Julia Campbell, who was murdered in the Cordillera Administrative Region, one of the peaceful town there was shocke by the report that Campbell was murdered, that later the murderer was Dontogan.

SWEET ELENA

Sweet Elena as the best carabao mango strain for commercialization. It weigh an average of 365-700 grams a fruit and a sugar content of almost 19 percent brix.

Brix scale, measure of sugar in solution: a hydrometer scale use for measuring the sugar content of a solution at a particular temperatur.

Thes outsatandin Carabao mangoes could be propagated or multiplied for planting in different parts of the country. Through grafting, any variety of mangoes could be used as rootstock and scion coming from outstanding varieties approved by NSIC. Always plant double rootstock because they are more resistant to typhoon, fast growing and early fruiting.

NSIC, National Seed Industry Council

The advantages of multi rootstock;

1. Growth and development is accelerated or double in comparison with single rootstock. Just as a man could travel faster with two feet that one foot, a plant could grow faster with double rootstock systems.

2. The tree becomes more prolific since it overcomes the biennial (alternate) fruiting habit. The plants produces heavy fruiting only after every other years and if forced to bear fruits by using or applying potassium nitrate KNO3, the tree will have a short life span as proven by what happen in mango producing provinces like in Cebu, Zambales, Nueva Ecija, and pangasinan.

a succesful propagator of sweet elena was Bernie Dizon , His nursery at Ninoy Aquino Wild Parks at North Ave. Q.C.

CHRISTMAS

Feast celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, generally observe on December 25. The actual date of Christ's birth is unknown and Christians did not have a Nativity feast until the 4rth century. At first January 6, the Epiphany, was observe as the feast of Christ' Baptism, with a secondary emphasis on His birth. The Armenian church still keeps Christmas on that day. The earliest mention of December 25 as Christ's birthday occurs in the Philocalian calendar (354), and that date seems to have become general throughout the West by the 5th century.
December 25 was already a major festival in the pagan Roman world, the Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, or "Birthday of the Unconquered Sun," falling within the week-long celebration of the Saturnalia, a feast honoring the renewal of the sun at the winter solstice. Pagan celebrations on December 25 had included feasting, dancing, lighting bonfires, decorating homes with greens, and giving gifts. So when this became a Christian festival, the costums continued, but with a Christian meaning imparted to them.
Throughout the Middle Ages, Christmas was a richly varied religious holiday. However during the Common wealth, the English Puritans, repelled by both the pagan practices and the religious ceremonies, forbade any religious or secular celebration of Christmas. The English celebration returned with the restoration or the Stuarts, but Christmas observances were still outlawed in Puritan New England for many years; and not until the 19th century did Christmas becomes a legal holiday in America.
Christmas customs vary widely around the world, but the retelling of the Chistmas story (Luke 1-2:20; Matt. 1:18-2:12) forms an important part of the celebration everywhere. Church services begin on Christmas eve and continue through the great midnight Masses of the Catholic churches to the day itself. In many European countries, especially France ang Italy, the center of the celebration, both in church and home, is the creche or crib, a model of the manger scene. St. Francis of Assisi introduced this into Italy in the 13th century, in an effort to bring the real meaning of Christmas to the people. In Austria and Belgium nativity plays are an important feature of Christmas. Christmas carols arose in the 13th century and are apart of the Christmas celebration in every country. Singers go from house to house, and are welcomed with food and gifts, especially in England and Scandinavia.
The exchange of gifts symbolizes God's gift of His Son to men, gifts the Wise Men brought to the Christ's Child, and the bond of Christian love in the family and with friends. Santa Claus, a secularized version of St. Nichols, the patron saint of children, is known also as Father Christmas or Kris Kringle. St. Nichols' feast, December 6, is the day of gift-giving in the Low Countries, where December 25 is a quite, purely religious festival.

Internet Explorer Flaw

The major press outlets are abuzz with news of a major new security flaw that affects all versions of Internet Explorer from IE5 to the latest beta of IE8. The attack has serious and far-reaching ramifications -- and they're not just theoretical attacks. In fact, the flaw is already in wide use as a tool to steal online passwords, with some thousands of websites infected with the code needed to take advantage of the hole in IE.

Virtually all security experts are counseling users to switch to any other web browser -- none of the others are affected, including Firefox, Chrome, and Opera -- at least for the time being, though Microsoft has stubbornly said it "cannot recommend people switch due to this one flaw." Microsoft adds that it is working on a fix but has offered no ETA on when that might happen. Meanwhile it offers some suggestions for a temporary patch, including setting your Internet security zone settings to "high" and offering some complicated works. (Some reports state, however, that the fixes do not actually work.)

Expedient patching or switching are essential. Security pros fear that the attack will soon spread beyond the theft of passwords and into more criminal arenas, as the malicious code can be placed on any website and can be adapted to steal any password stored or entered using the browser. It Will Microsoft repair the problem and distribute a patch quickly enough to head off the disaster of fraud that's about to hit or will it come too late?

Switch from Internet Explorer as soon as you can. You can always switch back once the threat is eliminated. (You don't need to uninstall IE, just don't use it for the time being.)

Rower rescued off Australia after 10-month journey

An Italian adventurer who spent 10 months rowing more than 9,500 nautical miles (18,000 kilometers) across the Pacific has been rescued a mere 65 nautical miles short of his goal , after rough weather sapped him of his final shreds of energy.

Alex Bellini, who began his voyage off Peru in February, contacted his wife Friday to say he was too exhausted to row his 25-foot (7.5 meter) boat any further, despite being nearly in sight of the eastern Australian town of Laurieton.

Bellini's wife contacted authorities, and an Australian tug boat towed the 30-year-old to shore. They reached Newcastle, 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of Sydney.

Although looking weary and thin and sporting a bushy beard, Bellini grinned and appeared in high spirits as he was reunited with his tearful wife, Francesca.

"I'm feeling good. I'm exhausted," Bellini told The Associated Press. "I need some time to relax."

A strong wind had hampered his efforts to get closer to shore for days. By Friday, he said, his energy was gone.

"For the next few days, the weather would have been even worse," said Bellini, who has also rowed across the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

Bellini said the journey was not about breaking records; he is not the first person to row solo across the Pacific and is not yet sure whether his trip is the longest solo journey. Instead, he said, the voyage was about testing his own limits.

"The reasons of my trip was double. First of all was to cross the Pacific," Bellini said. "But the other reason of my trip was making a trip inward. So it was discovering something of myself."

Bellini used a satellite phone to keep in contact with those on land and survived on dried food and desalinated ocean water. He also used a small cooker to fry up fish and to boil water for pasta. He found himself craving sweet foods — especially tiramisu and apple cake — and was looking forward to gorging on desserts.

"It made me crazy. I want all the sweets here in Sydney," he said with a laugh.

The worst part of his journey was the loneliness and the longing he felt for his wife. But despite their 10 months apart, Bellini said it was as if no time had passed when they laid eyes on each other Saturday. The two plan to return to their home in Trieste, Italy, in about a week.

For now, Bellini has no immediate plans to return to the open ocean. He has other priorities.

"I miss my bed. I miss my home," he said. "I need to go back and settle down."

Oprah Winfrey Obese

Oprah spilled the beans on her "embarrassing" weight gain. A six-wheeled car drew a slew of rubber-neckers. And everyone's favorite "Friend" posed (tastefully, mind you) in the buff.

Weight be not proud
Oprah Winfrey's admission that she now weighs 200 pounds . Oprah's weight and height "put her body mass index (BMI) at 31.8," which is in the obese range. In her magazine, Ms. Winfrey writes that she is embarrassed and mad at herself. Don't be so hard on yourself, Oprah. We give you credit for going public, and we're sure you'll make even more noise when you drop the pounds in a few months.

Six-wheeled ride burns rubber
You have a car with four wheels, but why not treat yourself to one with six? The makers of the Covini C6W insist that their six-wheeled wonder will offer better breaking, less risk of aquaplaning, and increased comfort. Anyone driving one will look like a total dork. The car looks Photoshopped, but we assure you, it is very real. Jalopnik has the full scoop, as well as a video of the C6W in action.

Are you watching Oprah Winfrey?

The King of Pay Per View

The biggest pay-per-view event in pro wrestling was headlined by one of the biggest names in boxing, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

And the biggest event in boxing was headlined by what most were calling a mismatch, Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao, with one fighter, Pacquiao having to jump several weight classes for a bout heavily criticized beforehand. It turned out to be a mismatch.

But when the dust settled on an unusual year, the biggest news of 2008 was the emergence of Lesnar as the year’s pay-per-view king. Lesnar’s over three fights made him the most-watched PPV fighter in 2008. His total was the second highest total in UFC history, trailing only Tito Ortiz, who did three events in 2006.

HBO boxing, which finished its year on pay-per-view on Saturday with the De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao fight, is estimated at 3.57 million buys and $183.2 million in gross revenue on nine events. The Dec. 6 showdown was the single biggest pay-per-view event of the year, doing 1,250,000 buys and $70 million in total revenue, making it the third biggest non-heavyweight fight in history.

“We heard some crazy numbers the last few days about what the show might do,” said UFC president Dana White. “That’s a great number and it’s Oscar De La Hoya. I’ve always said boxing has De La Hoya and there’s nobody else like him.

All three of the biggest events of the year came under heavy criticism. Mayweather was criticized for being involved with pro wrestling. UFC was criticized first for pushing Lesnar, even though his NCAA championship in amateur wrestling, size and athletic credentials made him clearly an incredible prospect at the sport. Later, they were criticized for giving him a championship match while only having a 2-1 record, which was valid criticism on paper, but like with the criticism of De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao, the guy who was supposed to be mismatched ended up winning.
